A 76-year-old Augusta woman is in jail. Betty Neumar is charged in connection with the 1986 murder of her husband.

Investigators with the Stanly County Sheriff's Office say Betty Neumar solicited help to kill her husband, Thomas Harold Gentry. He was found shot to death inside his home near Norwood, North Carolina. That's in Stanly County.

Gentry's family says they suspected Neumar all along -- and are relieved by today's arrest.

"We are tickled to death, we just praise God that they did follow through and come up with something," said Neumar's Sister-in-law Noma Gentry. "Maybe we can get some closure on this thing. It just brings back a lot of memories."

Richmond County deputies arrested Neumar on Wednesday afternoon after being tipped off by the Stanly County Sheriff's Office.

Right now she is being held in the Richmond County Jail.

Neumar is in the process of being extradited back to North Carolina.

She's scheduled to be in court Friday in Augusta.
