Senate Debates Global Warming This Week
WASHINGTON (AP)- The Senate has voted to proceed with legislation designed to cut carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases to combat so-called global warming. Monday's vote kicks off what is expected to be a contentious, week-long debate over how best to address climate change. Senators voted 74-14 to bring the measure officially to the Senate floor. Supporters needed 60 votes to even take up the bill because of a threatened filibuster. The bill calls for cutting U.S. heat-trapping greenhouse emissions two-thirds by mid-century.
