University Hospital just unveiled a new computer program that helps monitor the status of patients. Horizon Enterprise Visibility uses visual controls to deliver real-time, at-a-glance information that puts everyone involved in the care process on the same page.

Horizon Enterprise Visibility gives the people most able to impact patient flow visibility into the many processes that can delay clinical decisions and care delivery.

“It's like an airport when you go to the big screens you can see everything that's happening,” said Marilyn Bowcutt, Vice President of Patient Care, University Hospital.

Horizon Enterprise Visibility allows medical staff to load patient information into just one system and track it.

Nurses can then view that information from large screens. With about five patients to one nurse in their cardiovascular unit, University Hospital nurse Latina Hartfield says the new system cuts response times in half.

“It keeps the nurse from having to hunt a chart to see information or use a phone to see if my blood is ready. This cuts out the phone calls,” she said.

Bowcutt say it’s a safe and secure system monitored 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

“The room is pretty quite, so we don't have all kinds of phone calls going and that prevents errors,” she said.

It's important to mention that a patient's diagnosis is never part of information that can be accessed on the Horizon Enterprise Visibility system.

That is truly amazing; The state of Georgia must be very proud to have it's own Atlanta, GA's McKesson Technology play such an important role in healthcare.
