Eye care experts say few people see health benefits in sunglasses

Optician, Elizabeth Sullivan loves helping her clients look cute! But she says few of them put health before beauty or cost.

"I ask them what they're doing to protect their eyes and they say I have some cheap dollar store glasses for $10."

She says cheap glasses aren't always bad, but sometimes they lack protection from ultra violet rays.

"If it just says UV protection, how much UV? It could be 80% and that's just not enough. It needs to be 99% to 100%."

Experts say the right pair of sunglasses not only protect your eyes, but can also help you see better. For example, polarized sunglasses are designed to reduce glare and increase visibility.

Experts say its important for adults and kids to wear glasses every time they go outside. When you don't, UV rays give your eyes sunburn and that could lead to catarcts which can lead to vision loss.
