Security increased downtown for RiverBlast and First Friday

By NBCAugusta Reporters

RiverBlast and First Friday were held on the same day this year and that means more people headed downtown to celebrate. NBC Augusta found out extra troops were added to help keep you safe.

“Later on tonight, we'll have numerous officers on Broad Street, not only patrolling but blocking intersections to make sure pedestrian traffic as well as vehicle traffic to make sure things run smoothly as possible,”said Sgt. J.R. Compton.

Compton also said that instead of the usual ten deputies patrolling, they've upped it to 50.
