If you're planning to vote on Tuesday, there's something you need to know about Georgia primaries.

Richmond County Board of Elections, Executive Director Lynn Bailey, said many voters want to split their ballots.

"In the state of Georgia we have a closed primary. By definition, voters have to make a choice when they come to the poles. They have to vote either Democratic or Republican but can't vote in both," said Bailey.

In this primary, some voters are having a hard time sticking to one party. Jerry Delaigle is a prime example.

Some of this year's races have Delaigle and many other voters wishing the law was different.

For example, former Augusta Commissioner Marion Williams is hoping to beat Incumbent Ed Tarver in the race for the District 22 state senate Democrat nomination.

Then you have the race for the Republican nomination for District 10 U-S Congress. Barry Fleming is running against incumbent Paul Broun.

Delaigle said, "It makes it harder because you have people on both sides that you know and like and wish you could vote for. You can't do it because you have to stick to one party.

"We have good races on both party's ballots and there are voters much like myself and others who would like to vote for races for both parties," said Bailey.

Bailey went on to say, "The best advice I can give voters is to be prepared to make that decision when you go to the poles on Election Day. Know that you're going to have to make that decision and get yourself a sample ballot.”

If you're going to vote this Tuesday you will need a valid photo I.D.
