SC June jobless rate drops slightly to 6.2 percent
South Carolina's jobless rate dropped slightly in June, recovering from its two-year high the month before. The Employment Security Commission reported Friday that the state's unemployment slid to 6.2 percent. That was an improvement from May, when the rate jumped to 6.5 percent, but is still well above the 5.9 percent reported in April. Forecasters say even with the slight job gains in South Carolina, high gas prices and housing concerns will keep the state's unemployment rate high. The national unemployment rate held steady in June at 5.5 percent. (Copyright 2008 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.)
