You see it on NBC Augusta, and it's a huge help in solving crimes.

Video surveillance is getting more high-tech -- and more and more common.

Eric Weber has been installing internet surveillance systems for 2 years. In that time, he says his cameras have helped solved 10 crimes and business keeps expanding.

"The latest thing is new construction," he said. "People are stealing copper, and we put one up at a construction site."

Weber says more people are installing them at home too. He has three and says they come in handy for more than just security.

"One time I had a UPS delivery man who said he'd delivered a package that day," Weber recalled. "I called UPS and said, 'look, I have video that proves nobody was here.'"

Another advantage of web surveillance -- it can form a virtual neighborhood watch.

A Charlotte couple posted a break-in video from their home -- to YouTube. Weber says that will become more and more common.

"The police can't be everywhere," he said. "It just gives you more eyes out there.

Weber says installing a home internet surveillance system ranges from $2000 to $1000.
