Jilted fiancee wins big in break-up

GAINESVILLE, Ga. (AP)- Nothing will heal a broken heart like $150,000.

That's how much a Hall County jury has ruled Wayne Gibbs owes
his ex-fiancee, RoseMary Shell, for breaking off their engagement.
Shell sued for breach of contract after she left her $81,000-a-year
job in Pensacola, Fla., in 2006 to move to Gainesville, Ga., and be
with her fiancee.

Two months later, Gibbs told her he was having second thoughts.
He broke up with her in March 2007.

Shell now makes $31,000 a year. The jury award equals one year
of her old salary plus bonuses and benefits.

Shell told The Times of Gainesville she is "thrilled.''

Gibbs and his attorney declined comment to the newspaper.

Shame on her. Unlike marriage, an engagement should not be considered a legally binding contract (regardless of legal precedent) A marriage certificate forms a legally binding contract. She should have not left her job without such unless she was willing to accept the risk. Whether or not her former fiancee was a gentleman or a cantankerous loute should have had no bearing on the outcome of this suit.

She got lucky - not only that she was awarded the money, but that she got away from him before she married him. She made some stupid mistakes but just got lucky!

I don't agree with this ruling at all. In the first place why would you leave an 81,000 a yr job just because you are engaged? I wouldn't leave until married. Secondly she should be thankful that he didn't enter into their marriage with these doubts, this would create bigger problems down the road. Some people are just plain greedy! Be an adult and just come to grips with the fact that life doesn't come with guarantees.

What a fool she was !!! She was crazy to leave a darn good paying job and beautiful beaches to be with him in the first place. If he loved her as much as he said he did, HE would have moved to her instead of asking her to move to him. But, I bet she will think and rethink a decision like this in the future. I'd take the money and move back to P'cola and see if my old boss would hire me back. GO GIRL !!
