South Texas is recovering from Hurricane Dolly. The storm made a direct hit on South Padre Island, leaving behind substantial damage and rattled nerves. Dolly is gone, but the damage the violent category 2 storm left behind will take a while to clear away. South Padre Island Resident Evelyn Lopez says "a lot of broken glass, going to be a big job." After a big storm, winds raging at more than 100 miles-an-hour, rain that poured for hours, left a deep scar on this barrier island. South Padre Island Resident Ginger Daniel says "it was really bad, we were terrified, we were terrified." Boats pushed from the water, buildings ripped apart, and pieces tossed for miles. Utility poles pulled up and thrown to the ground. Tens of thousand are still without electricity. Tourists trapped by the storm in this vacation town are now packing up and pulling out. But those who call this island home don't have that option. Instead, they must travel the long road to recovery.
