Georgia State Patrol kicks off Labor Day initiative

Georgia State Patrol is teaming up with five neighboring states to catch impaired drivers this holiday weekend.

The Hands Across the Border initiative kicked off Tuesday with a ceremony. During the next six days drivers can expect to see more patrol activity on interstates and more sobriety road checks.

"Georgia loses 1600 souls to traffic fatalities a year. Usually that is someone's mother, father, or child," said Lt. Donnie Smith of Georgia State Patrol.

Georgia is working with Alabama, Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Tennessee.
