Food bank helps hurricane victims

By Dustin Blanchard dblanchard@nbcaugusta.com

The Golden Harvest Food Bank held an emergency food drive Tuesday at the Walmart in Evans.

It says the food is very important in the aftermath of Gustav, and in preparation for Hanna and other storms.

"Typically we would have great reserves," said Vikki Blair Adkins. "With the economic situation being what it has been, everyone is low."

Wednesday and Thursday the bank will be collecting items again at the Walmart in Evans and the Walmart in North Augusta.

People are encouraged to bring canned goods and non-perishable items.

The items will go to those in need in the Gulf Coast along with any relief needed after tropical storm Hanna hits the Southeastern coast.
