Sego Middle School has the only solar panel in CSRA

Sego Middle School has some major bragging rights.

They're the only school in the CSRA to have a solar panel.

The panel donated by Georgia Power is hooked up to the science labs to power different items.

Science teacher, Barbara Adger said it's a wonderful learning tool for children to learn and understand the need for alternative energy.

"With everyone talking about alternative energy sources, it's important for students to understand this could be our answer. Solar energy converted to electrical energy which is what they learned yesterday could save us in the years to come," said Adger.

Sego Middle is one of eight schools in the state of Georgia with a solar panel.

The Electric Cooperatives of Georgia began installing solar panels in Georgia schools in 2005. To date they've installed solar panels at 18 schools throughout the state, including one at Jefferson County High School.
