The following video contains extremely offensive remarks. The management of WAGT believes that the public has a right to this information when it involves government officials. We also believe that we still must observe community standards so some portions of the audio track have been edited with tones replacing the most offensive remarks. Once again portions of this video’s comments are extremely offensive.

I AM A FIRM BELIEVER THAT EVERY THING YOU DO IN THE DARK WILL COME TO THE LIGHT. YOU CAN BEST BELIEVE THAT HE IS NOT THE ONLY ONE THAT FEELS THIS WAY, HE IS JUST THE ONE THAT GOT CAUGHT. NOT ONLY ARE THE CAUCASIONS USING THIS TYPE OF LANGUAGE BUT THE AFRICAN AMERICANS ARE TOO. WHEN YOU GET CAUGHT IN A SYSTEM THAT IS ALREADY CORRUPT AND YOU ARE NOT STRONG WILLED YOU BECOME A PART OF THE CORRUPTION. BUT IT IS ALWAYS THE OFFICERS WORD AGAINST THE CITIZENS,AND THE OFFICERS ARE NOT ALWAYS RIGHT.

I know a lot of officers use this kind of language, as do many other people. Its sad, but true. Hes an average arrogant male pig, the fact that he is a cop is irrelevant. He should have gotten fired because of what he now represents for the RCSD. There was no way to smooth this over with the public once it got out. There are a lot of people that make racist comments, think about every conversation you have had that you thought noone else would hear, we all live in glass houses, dont we?

Monday, Oct 6 at 1:37 AM On or off tape NOT PROFESSIONAL! wrote ...

Noone recorded his pesonal convo.. He's suppose to stop his own tape @ the end of every traffic stop. Noone has to ability to say oh,,,let me record inside this car to see what they're talking about. He screwed up, noone else screwed him up he did it to himself. I don't even know if Powell is a bad guy or not, maybe he was just shootin sh*t to whoever he was on the phone with but he did say things he should not have said whether his cam was on or not. THAT'S NOT PROFESSIONAL.Caught,no denying it

It's not the "N" word that should get him fired.Black and white use it.It's the fact that he is an arrogant S.O.B.He was not hired with "our tax money" to be our God...he was hired to represent us and protect us,his job went straight to his head, please, find a way to stop putting arrogance in our police force. We are all stuck on this earth to live the best we can until death takes us away, don't ever think you are better than your neighbor.SHAME on you Powell..YOU ARE A DISGRACE.Now go find a job.

This is so sad and so unacceptable, but I can only imagine how many other law enforcements who are out there with the same mentality and the invisible white sheets; incredibly a sorrow to our society when morals and values have gone to pot. Now imagine a woman alone driving home at night and is stopped by this creature or the silent other creatures in the department, do you think she is going to stop, I DON'T THINK SO, I WON'T FOR SURE! "11:13 PM NOOSE wrote ... Lets see if there is anybody that can honestly say that we done say things to our friends that we wouldn't want everyone to hear.I guess he lost his job for getting caught on tape doing what everybody does." I agree with Noose. I've heard blacks call each other by the 'n' word and whites by a variety of words...none of which was complementry. So this guy is homophobic. Making him feel persecuted isn't going to change that attitude.

Friday, Oct 3 at 9:24 PM antilib wrote ...

Marilyn, may i ask you what he should have been arrested. God help us if this "change" you are looking for finds us. Socialists believe that people should be arrested for offensive speech. Would "African-Americans" be arrested for calling each other the "N" word? Where do we draw the line. Powell will never again work in Law Enforcement and he has disgraced himself. Scary his attitude, but yours is just as scary. Orwell lives.

It's a shame that people like this are out there stopping our wives & daughters. What if he had decied to go through with that sexual assualt he mentioned? It might have been a private conversation, but he was on the clock.Besides a policeman is on duty 24/7.It's a shame he has given a blackeye to so many fine, dedicated law officers !

The sad thing is showing how police have the ability to choose what laws they enforce. He stated he doesn't wear a seat belt. stereotyped her because she has illegitimate kids.d Also he called children monkey's. H e is a office of the law and the law being broken talking about his oral sex escapades... How they lookin to give tickets not how to stop speeding to save lives... "Big Ole Monkey Lips"... This unbelievable

This message is for 9:26 Augusta. Forgetfulness is the only reason why the conversation was recorded in the first place. The Sheriff's Office says The dash cam started recording during the traffic stop. They tell me when Wesley got back into his car he forgot to stop recording. That's the only reason the conversation was caught on tape. No one with the Sheriff's office is intentionally recording the conversations.

I bet this will make a lot of deputies think twice about what they say during 'private' conversations in their patrol cars! I personally dont think this conversation shouldve been released to the public. If they were going to discipline him for it or give him the option to resign instead of firing him, thats fine but, the conversation shouldnt have been released.

Friday, Oct 3 at 9:47 AM Marilyn wrote ...

How much more do citizens have to take of police officers abusing their authority? It is ridiculous that he was able to resign, he should have been fired on the spot and he should have been put in jail immediately. Had he been African American he would not have been given that option. How can we allow such behavior to be tolerated it is sad that people still feel this way about other human beings in 2008. It is time for a change!

It is police officers like this pig that give police a bad name, these are the ones that think they are above the law. No wonder most people now days mistrust cops. I have seen many in Augusta that speed just to get where they are going, (not in pursuit). This may have been a private call, but it was when he was on duty, and shows what kind of person this thing is. Keep him out of law enforcement!!!

Friday, Oct 3 at 8:46 AM Mike wrote ...

This is typical of liberals getting hold of something someone said and using it against them. Why is this, now ex deputies, discipline record public for anyone to see ? Is there a law against not liking the life style of a gay person? Is there a law against making unpoplar remarks against anyone? This deputy should have been warned about this. He may not have known his conversation was being recorded. Shame on the Sheriff's department for releasing this video to further discredit this person.

that is good for that racist pig. He does not ever need to get in Lawenforcement again. the state needs to revoke his certification

Thursday, Oct 2 at 11:06 PM When will this end? wrote ...

They now need to file criminal charges against. I have seen him run 85 on Hwy1 many times on my way to work in the mornings. Yet he wrote me a ticket for running 70 and would not cut it to 69 even though I am a fireman. What really ticked me off was he smoked the tires on the pavement when he pulled out from writing me a ticket. I saw him at the store and asked him why spin the tires, he said "I can do whatever I want to do I am the law, you do it so I can take you to jail" then a laughed at me
