FORT GORDON, Ga. - 300 Fort Gordon soldiers came home to their families on Tuesday.
The soldiers of the 63rd Signal Battalion spent the last 15 months in Iraq.
Hundreds of wives and husbands, sons and daughters anxiously awaited the moment their loved ones marched into the gymnasium at Fort Gordon.
For wife Brysty Callahan, the wait was almost unbearable.
"It's indescribable. I'm excited. I'm nervous. Everything all wrapped into one," said Callahan.
Brysty's husband, Chief Josh Callahan, spent more than a year half a world away. He was away from loved ones like his young son, Caleb.
"He's been gone since July 2007,” said Brysty. “He's been gone for 15 months. It was not easy. He's been gone probably over half our marriage. He's been gone a lot."
When the big moment came and the hundreds of soldiers marched in, the gymnasium erupted in cheers.
Hundreds of families rushed into the crowd, looking for familiar faces.
Families reunited, hugged, kissed and cried. Brysty and son Caleb quickly found their soldier. Brysty embraced husband Josh, seeing him in person for the first time in 15 months.
"It feels great! 100 percent great!” said Josh as he held his son in one arm and his wife in the others. ”It's been a long 15 months. These guys keep me going."
This has been the third deployment to Iraq for the 63rd Signal Battalion.
Soldiers say right now, they're just happy to be back home with their family and friends.
