NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. - NBC Augusta 26 News has learned the 13-year-old girl accused of handing out the prescription drug Xanax to other students has been charged with two felonies.

The student is charged with one count of possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance and possession to distribute a controlled substance within a half mile of school.

An officer with North Augusta Public Safety says the girl brought the Xanax to school last Thursday in a jewelry box.

Investigators say one of the students who took the Xanax had to be treated at the hospital.
