Update: Edgefield County woman dies after fire

MERRIWETHER, S.C. - An elderly woman who lived in the Edgefield County town of Merriwether has died from injuries she received when here home caught fire Wednesday afternoon.

Mae Bunch, 87, of Martintown Road died Thursday at the Joseph M. Still Burn Center at Doctors Hospital in Augusta.

The Edgefield Daily is reporting that a family friend told them Bunch died due to smoke inhalation that quickly developed into pneumonia.

Investigators say Bunch also suffered severe burns to her hands, arms, chest and face as she tried to battle the fire.

The official cause of the fire has not bee released, but firefighters say it was electrical.
