AUGUSTA, Ga. - At least five deputies were injured as a vigil at Cherry Tree Crossing Tuesday night turned chaotic.

Ninety deputies were on hand as the community held a vigil in response to news Justin Elmore died at MCGHealth Tuesday evening.

Two deputies shot Elmore, 23, after they say he tried to run one of them over during a traffic stop at 15th and Carver streets on Sunday.

Investigators stopped Elmore on suspicion he was driving a stolen vehicle. Officers also say they received a tip he had drugs and a weapon in the vehicle.

The shooting caused chaos throughout the housing project. Multiple fires were set in trash dumpsters, angry neighbors threw rocks and bottles at media and officers the night of the shooting.

Deputies arrested at least four in the chaos Tuesday night.

If I was a policeman, I wouldn't go to that hell hole again if it meant that I would have to quit my job. The law enforcement branches should just announce that they were going to pull out and not enforce the law nor protect the people in that area until the preachers that stirred up the mess begged them to come in again.
