APPLING, Ga. - It's taken a few years, but Columbia County now has its own spay and neuter clinic.

Before, the closest non-profit clinic was in Aiken.

The new clinic on Columbia Road in Appling opens Wednesday. It can house at least 16 animals.

The clinic offers low cost surgery on a case by case basis.

Clinic Director Donna Evans says even though the doors haven't opened yet, the response is overwhelming.

“We’re just so excited. Our phones have been ringing off the hook. Rescue groups, places as far as Wilkes or Crawfordville, they’re coming from all around so we’re extremely excited,” said Clinic Director Donna Evans.

Animals can also get a free rabies shot with each spay or neuter.

Future developments include a no-kill shelter and dog park.

Your story is oh so wrong. For 3 years there has been a low cost spay and neuter clinic called Heartsong located on Columbia Road. They have spayed and neutered over 4000 pets with no fanfare. This clinic also is very active in animal rescue. Columbia County Humaine society only rescued 10 animals from the columbia county animal shelter during the entire year 2008. You need to tell the rest of the story. Contact Loretta Emons at Heartsong.
