GROVETOWN, Ga. - A Grovetown woman had to undergo surgery at MCG Health after a burglar attacked her in her home.

Deputies say Laverne Parsons discovered the person inside when she got home this morning.

Deputies have been stopping everyone entering the neighborhood to see if anyone saw anything suspicious this morning.

Neighbors say they can't believe this happened so close to home.

"Today coming home from work I saw the police cars and yellow tape," said Melissa Stanley. Now, she lives right across the street from a crime scene. She says nothing like this happens in her neighborhood.

"It's a very quiet neighborhood. You don't expect anything like this," she said.

Stanley says she doesn't know Laverne Parsons well, but says she can't believe someone would attack her quiet, family-oriented neighbor.
Investigators are trying to figure out who could do such a thing.

The investigation will continue in the neighborhood Thursday.

Deputies are asking anyone with information to call the Columbia County Sheriff's Office.

No area is immune to burglaries, robberies, assaults, home invasions. Anywhere a criminal sees an opportunity, he will try it. Be aware, be wary, trust your gut and STILL use caution. If something looks awry when you come home, call police from your cellphone and a safe distance or a trusted neighbor's house to ask police to check before you go in.

This poor woman lives across the street from me!!! (BTW, she is married/has a man). She didn't see this coming - what do you do? No one expects this sort of thing when you just get home in daylight. This was in broad daylight, in a quiet residential community. He also burgularized the house next to her!! Unbelievable and very, very terrifying.

I just got robbed last week, I now have an alarm system & gun & dog. But that won't stop these criminals. So tell me what are the police doing to stop this when they have all the robberies in one area?

a real good watch dog. Also better locks. The country will be getting worse. People ( lazy, no good drugies) don't care about anyone even their own family. A cop told me one time " you can only use a gun if they are in your house. So if you shoot them pull them inside." My prayers are with you. Get well soon. Get a dog that cares for you eats bads guys.
