String of burglaries in Edgefield County could be linked

By Arielle Clay aclay@nbcaugusta.com

EDGEFIELD COUNTY, S.C. - Several homes broken into in Edgefield County--now deputies are searching for who is responsible.

The burglaries started about 5 weeks ago. The most recent happened just last night. Almost all were in the Merriwether area.

About $100,000 worth of valuables have been stolen including jewelry, televisions, and computers.

Deputies say they believe at least some of the cases are linked.

An article was published on the front page of the Aiken Standard in September 2005 when a circuit court judge (Westbrook) died in a car accident. The article was written about him and former Solicitor Barbara Morgan who told the reporter that she enjoyed baking and giving him cakes, etc. whenever he visited the 2nd judicial circuit. Clearly this is lawyer misconduct and for a public official who holds elected office at a minimum a SLED criminal charge of misconduct in office should be sought.
