Teen hit by Jeep while riding in go-cart

By Steve Kuzj skuzj@nbcaugusta.com

HEPHZIBAH, GA. - A teenager driving on the road in a go-cart was hit by a man in a jeep and taken to the hospital, Saturday.

The accident happened on the 3900 block of Karleen Road in Hephzibah.

The driver of the Jeep says the teen pulled out in front of him and slowed down to make a turn, that's when the driver hit him.

According to the report, the speed limit of the road is 45 mph. Police say the 13-year-old boy's go-cart was not legal to drive on the road, but that the Jeep driver is at fault for following too closely.

The teen suffered a broken arm, but is expected to fully recover.

Don't u people have morals. It was all that mans fault & God will take care of it. U r talking about a 61yrold man who was drunk & mad cause they were riding in the road he deserves to be in jail for what he did to the 11yrold boy. He didnt even get out of the jeep to check on theses boys. So any of u that think it was the kids fault I hope u can sleep @ night. Cause @ the end of the day they r just little boys.

I would like everyone to know that this case is going to be investigated to the fullest. The witnesses say this drunk driver knew he was pushing these kids off the road. He was angry, and drunk. There are details that are misleading about this incident, but will be brought to light. Please have consideration for this family. Their child was wrong for being in the road, but he is an eleven-year old mischievous little boy who made a childlike decision. This child did not deserve this. Please pray.

For SHEESHHH/Rampant This child only has a broken arm? You are deliberately trying to misinform. This child is in ICU. Do you know what ICU means? Duh! It means Intensive Care Unit. You don’t go to ICU for a broken arm. He has lost all function in one of his kidneys. Bones were sticking out of his arm, not to mention hematomas all through his body. This child is hurting. He is a child, what is your excuse! They are still waiting to here more results on other testing. Know your facts!

Okay, who's at fault here? Could it be the eleven year old child or a middle aged drunk driver. The witness say the driver felt like playing road rage. Go figure!

Mr bls and Sheeshhh. You are a ruthless and ignorant. You would like to use your worthless and heartless condemnation over a typo and the argument that these (children ) should not be in the road to eliminate yourself of any fault at all when in fact you know he was drinking, and you know that he was acting out of anger. He deliberately hit these kids because he was angry that they were in the road. Grant it these children were not suppose to be in the road, but they are children.

In response to Mr. bls and SHEESHHH - Mr. Language critique First of all, We know what this is all about and who you are. You are doing whatever you can to discredit this family who is suffering over their child, who now lay in ICU at the MCG. You state this child only has a broken arm. This child has lost all function of one kidney, and the family is still not aware of the out come. The photographs of this tells it all. The photographs of bones sticking out of this young mans arm.

To bls I don't know these people but I am sure that when you are upset about your child your grammar and spelling is not a big concern. If you had a life or even half a heart you wouldn't be such a jerk. Maybe you should just grow up and stay out of other people's business.

It is true some of the people ride 3 wheelers, 4 wheelers and other recreational vehicles on the highway. They need to be ticketed, then given a warning. If that doesn't help then throw them or their parents n jail. Maybe they don't care about us, how do they think we'd feel if we killed someone? STAY OFF THE ROAD-RIDE IN THE WOODS-ON YOUR OWN PROPERTY OR DO NOT GET ONE OF THESE VEHICLES!!!

I hate the young man got injured and I pray for his speedy recovery. But the children in that area be on skateboards, bikes, and anything else motorized in that neighborhood. And they don't respect the traffic coming through there. The parents need to inform their children of the dangers,of being in the roadway. Also, there is a police substation in the neighborhood. Why aren't the cops patrolling the area and enforcing the laws?? Because you have drunks and teens speeding, up and down the road also.

How can the driver be at fault when the go-cart is on the road illegally? It is hard to see those things from a driver's perspective. That's why they shouldn't be on the road!

This happened in GA, but in SC, NO go-carts are allowed on a public road at any time unless it is a permitted activity such as a parade. And the operation of such vehicles is to cease once they leave the designated parade route. Golf Carts are to have a visible permit decal which can be purchased by the owner. The Golf Carts are to be operated only during day light hours and only by the permitted owner. Children are prohibited from operation. The laws are good it's the parents who are at fault.

I THINK IT'S TIME FOR OFFICIALS TO PUT A STOP TO CHILDREN RIDING GO CARTS ANS GOLF CARTS IN THE ROAD. GO OUT TO GOSHEN SUBDIVISION ON SATURDAY AND SUNDAY. YOU SEE THEM ALL OVER THE ROAD. SOME ARE SO YOUNG THEY CAN'T HARDLY REACH THE GAS AND BRAKE PEDDLE. SO I DON'T THINK IT SHOULD BE THIS MANS FAULT. EVEN THOUGH HE WAS FOLLOWING CLOSE. THE GO CART SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN IN THE STREET
