Golf hole that fell into ocean to soon reopen
ISLE OF PALMS, S.C. (AP) - A South Carolina golf course is about to reopen its closing hole, which had been washed away by beach erosion. The Post and Courier of Charleston reported Monday that the Wild Dunes Club at the Isle of Palms will reopen its par-5, 18th hole to Members plan to play the hole starting Wednesday before it reopens. The hole was rebuilt after a $10 million beach re-nourishment project. It sweeps around the Dewees Inlet point to a rolling elevated green framed by palmettos and ocean dunes. The project saved the inlet beach, the golf course and at least six condominium complexes. Wild Dunes paid $7 million, the public paid the rest. Officials say the rebuilt beach handled the first winter storms well earlier this year. (Copyright 2009 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.)
