Richmond County expanding its magnet school program

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Richmond County School System is expanding its magnet school program.

Richmond County Board of Education Public Information Officer Louis Svehla tells 26 News the school system is adding seventh and eight grades in a new facility at A.R. Johnson Health Science and Engineering Magnet High School.

For the 2010-11 school year, Richmond County high school students will have another magnet school option. Laney High School will add an Advanced Placement academy for the upcoming school year and will allow any Richmond County student to apply a year later.

Svehla says a new stand-alone magnet high school is also being planned.

Newsweek magazine ranked John S. Davidson Fine Arts Magnet School as one of the top public high schools in the nation on June 8.
