EVANS, Ga. - The Columbia County Board of Education may have to take out a loan just to meet expenses during the upcoming school year.
Ever since state lawmakers approved House Bill 233 the county's assessment notices haven't been mailed.
Usually, they're sent by the second week of May.
This year, they aren't expected to make it to homeowners until the end of July.
That means, the tax money the board depends on by November may not be there.
NBC Augusta 26 News spoke with Superintendent Charles Nagle.
He says the school board will more than likely have to dip into its reserve money and take out a loan to cover the shortfall.
