AUGUSTA, Ga. – A fifth person at Fort Gordon has been diagnosed with the H1N1 Flu Virus, once referred to as swine flu.

The doctor who treated the patient said she's doing well and the other four patients have fully recovered.

MCGHealth has only treated one person for the H1N1 virus and that was a transfer patient from outside Georgia-Carolina.

“It’s out there in the public, it’s everywhere, so we would expect at some point we’d start seeing cases come through Fort Gordon,” said Dr. Cedric McCord, Dwight D. Eisenhower Army Medical Center.

“You just want folks to make sure if they cough or sneeze that they cover their mouth, that they make sure they use hand sanitizer to keep their hands clean and make sure they have good personal hygiene. Those are the big keys to mitigating the disease,” said McCord.

Health officials from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention say there are nearly 34,000 cases of H1N1 in the U.S.

In the U.S. 170 people have died from the H1N1 virus.
