AUGUSTA, Ga. - Deputies are asking for your help to find an elderly woman who's been missing since Thursday morning.
Investigators say several people spotted Liz Bert in the "Buckhead" neighborhood off Belair Road. That's where they focused their search Friday, even sending up a helicopter.
But as the hours pass by, her grandson is getting more and more worried.
"I'm real worried, but I'm trying to stay calm, because I have to," said Randy Williams. He says he's hardly slept, looking everywhere since Liz Bert walked away from her personal care home.
It's doubly important to Williams. Bert's his grandma, but also his mother. She adopted him when his parents died.
"I've been with her since I was 2. She's the only mother I ever had," Williams said.
Bert has Alzheimer’s, though Williams says she's still sharp. He says he's more worried about her diabetes and the heat.
"It's not even good for a healthy person to be in this heat. If she's out here she's had nothing to drink, nothing to eat, not had her insulin," he said.
Richmond County Sheriff’s investigator Calvin Chew says all of those factors have led to the sheriff's office coming out in full force.
"Somebody running away is different than someone walking away with Alzheimer’s," he explained.
He asks if you've seen Bert, to call right away. At this point, everyone's staying optimistic.
"If I can just find my grandmother, and she's ok. I just wanna bring her home," said Williams.
The owner of Bert's personal care home said she's been searching too.
She says Bert unlocked the front door and walked out while her caretaker was in the bathroom. She says state law doesn't allow them to lock their clients inside.
