Missing elderly Augusta woman found dead

By Christine O’Donnell codonnell@nbcaugusta.com

AUGUSTA, Ga. - Elizabeth Bert, the 85-year-old woman that has been missing for four days was found dead Sunday, according to investigators from the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.

Bert was found in a wooded area about 50-75 yards from the street on the 2000 Block of Clarkston Road at around 11:55 a.m., Richmond County Coroner, Mark Bowen said.

She wondered away from her personal care home on Thursday.

Bowen pronounced Bert dead at the scene at 12:15 p.m. Sunday.

Bert suffered from Alzheimer’s and was severely diabetic.

Searchers have been looking for Bert since she walked away from the House of Life Personal Care Home off of Wrightsboro Road at around 6:30 a.m. Thursday.

Bowen says there is no reason to believe foul play was a contributing factor to her death at this time.

In honor of this precious person, I challenge all of you to donate to the Alzheimers Association of Augusta. This disease is dreadful, I know. Help raise awareness, help provide assistance to our local families who are trying to care for their loved ones with Alzheimers. Thank you

this is totally uncalled for. Our elderly suffer at the hands of unqualified care-givers every day. God help us! This is so sad
