EVANS, Ga. - A Columbia County woman was dragged across a parking lot during a purse snatching.
The victim's daughter told NBC Augusta 26 News her mother always plays it safe, is always aware of her surroundings and keeps her purse close by.
Tuesday evening around 7 p.m. that didn't keep Rosa Roberson from being attacked in the Kroger parking lot on Washington Road in Evans.
Officers say a man jumped out of a silver Cadillac, snatched Roberson’s purse and took off, dragging her along the asphalt.
"You have four individuals, all who reside in Augusta driving into Evans for one reason, to rob," said Captain Steve Morris, Columbia County Sheriff’s Office.
Within minutes after the robbery, deputies say they spotted the getaway car.
They chased the car to the end of Holly Hill Road.
Deputies say one of the men inside - Tony McClendon - ran from the car and tried to steal another vehicle on Myers Lane.
Now McClendon, Christopher Johnson, Jonathan Harrell, and Brandon Curry are in jail charged with robbery.
Hearing what happened to this woman has some shaken up.
Sabrina Rose shops at the Evans store frequently.
"It's scary. It makes me think about should I come by myself, should I have my husband for support because you never know when your going to be a victim," said Rose.
Rose herself was a victim thirteen years ago.
"I was robbed at gunpoint when I was five months pregnant and it was around 7 o’clock in the afternoon right in front of the restaurant where I was," said Rose.
Investigators say this is a rare incident, being robbed in daylight.
But there are some things you can do to stay safe.
Deputies recommend shopping with a buddy, keeping your keys in your hand and always be observant so you don't become a target.
Roberson says despite some bruises and scratches to her face and legs, she's doing well.
