Have you ever noticed when you are drinking bottled water that it has a drink by date?
Erin from Augusta wants to know why that is.
NBC Augusta 26 news did some checking and found out a state law passed in New Jersey in 1987 requiring use-by dates for all products.
The law states food items sold there must have an expiration date two years or less from the date it was manufactured.
A few years later, the state amended the law, but it had already become an industry norm, so many of the manufacturers continued putting expiration dates on bottled water.
