Swainsboro man accused of killing his in-laws

Swainsboro, Ga. - A Swainsboro couple is dead and police say their son- in-law killed them.

Swainsboro Police say Edison Ortiz shot and killed his mother and father-in-law Saturday afternoon.

According to the police chief Linda and Deryll Bruce walked to their daughter and son-in-law’s home on Bell Street. The victims and Ortiz got into a fight in the middle of the street. That's when police say Ortiz shot his mother and father-in-law several times.

The wife died at a local hospital, the husband died at MCGHealth.

Ortiz is charged with two counts of murder.

I have one more thing to say about all of this. Since the young lady made the comment about Edison taking all that he could take, and he "snapped". Well, that does not give him the right to take the lives of 2 innocent people, just because he has had a bad childhood. When someone is in the military, they can call "MilitaryOneSource" and they offer mental help to all of the soldiers and their families(24/7) free of charge, so Edison did have other options. What is left is in God's hands now.

Further more, as Phillip wonders the streets looking for answers to his parents' murders, his sister is standing by her husband and living with her brother-in-law. As for all of these ex-girlfriends standing up for Edison, of course they are gonna speak up for him, he used his smile and his talent and charm to win them over, but their parents were not blown away by him!!! These kids just lost their parents to a ridiculous crime, and some of the comments are enough to push Phillip over the edge.

I am in complete shock at the comments that have been posted about this tragedy. Everyone that posted negative thoughts should put themselves in this young man's shoes. First of all, he was already mentally ill BEFORE Edison murdered his parents and you have the nerve to turn this into a bash Phillip event. Next, although Edison may be in the U.S. Army, he has yet to SERVE his Country, he has only been in training, so that cannot be used as an excuse. This young man is facing losing their home.

Look I know edison personally and I know that what he has done is very wrong but for some of you who are outsiders looking in let me tell you around 5 years ago I was edison's girlfirend and loved him very much. These people had him brainwashed that if he came near me or talked to me that "God would punish him in hell forever" They even basically kept him prisoner in their home on the pretense of a "spiritual cleaning" I kow that for whatever reason he has did it he was still a good person.
