GRANITEVILLE, S.C. – An Aiken County middle school teacher, charged with eight sex crimes against a former student, is out of jail Tuesday night.

Tammy Key, 38, is staying with her parents and three children in Aiken after she was released from the Aiken County Detention Center.

Key is accused of having an inappropriate sexual relationship with a student.

The student was 14-years old at the time, according to Aiken County Investigators.

The incidents occurred at Leavelle McCampbell School in Graniteville.

Aiken County Investigators say Key had sexual intercourse and oral sex with the student at both the school and her home.

The former student is now 18-years-old. He recently told deputies about the incidents.

For the past two years, Key has been a math teacher at LBC Middle School in Warrenville.

When asked, one of her co-workers said Key is a fabulous teacher.

One of her neighbors says Key knew she was going to be arrested for two weeks. So, she turned herself in voluntarily on Monday.

Her neighbor says, she knows the teen who accused Key, and doesn't think he's telling the truth.

"I think she’s the sweetest lady you’d ever meet, and I know she did not do this. She'll be cleared of this charge, it's just not true. It's just not true,” her neighbor said.

Principals from both schools said they did not want to comment.

Key is now on administrative leave from LBC School, according to the Board of Education.

The Aiken County School Board is calling this a very serious matter and it wants to protect both the students and the teacher.

Aiken County Sheriff's Office is investigating both Tammy Key and the student who made the accusations.

This lady is sick! I do, however, agree with a previous poster that there is some lying going on though. Of course, it's on the part of Key, not the victim. I know of more than one student with whom this lecherous woman has had relations. If you feel the need to pray for someone, I nominate the victim, certainly not Key.

How can anyone judge this woman without truly knowing the entire story? She is an awesome teacher, and the students absolutely adore her. In fact, she is currently the teacher of my 7th grade son. Maybe the so-called victim needs to be investigated! You never know - Some hidden details might be found out about him. God bless you Tammy, and we are praying for you and your family! Keep the faith and ask God to see you through this difficult time.

I'm so glad to see people posting another side to the story. I worry when I see allegations made and people jump to the conclusion that they are true, when they might not be. We must view the charged person as innocent unless proven guilty.

Guilty until the court or DA finds you not guilty. I hope she files a giant lawsuit and wins for slander. If this is a BS charge.

I think it is terrible that they post this all over the news without knowing the entire story. Is this boy lying? God forbid this did happen. But I still think they should not post who the teacher is until the truth comes out. Her life is probably ruined now, especially if it is not true. My prayers for her and her family.
