Diocese of Savannah reaches sexual abuse settlement

Tools

SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) - The Catholic Diocese of Savannah has
announced a $4.24 million settlement with a 40-year-old man who
says he was sexually abused by a former priest.

The Diocese said in a statement Wednesday that the settlement
was to avoid the expense and burden of a lengthy trial.

Savannah native Allan Ranta filed a civil suit in Jasper County,
S.C., in 2008 saying he was molested by former priest Wayland Y.
Brown from 1978 to 1983.

Ranta was 10- to 14- years old and a student at St. James
Catholic School when the alleged abuse occurred. He claimed the
Diocese ignored signs Brown posed a danger to children.

Brown was convicted in 2003 for sexually abusing two Maryland
boys nearly 30 years earlier.

He was released in April 2008 after serving half of his
sentence.

To Happy Catholic-the Church has been usurped after Second Vatican. They are a shadow of what once was. Look at the stats. Less than a third of the Nuns and a lack of priests. The Council of Bishops sounds more Marxist than Catholic. And the Pro-life stance of the Church is lip service as opposed to coddling up to the likes of Pelosi and Kennedy. Meanwhile the people in the pews are supposed to finance the negligence of the leadership. Sometimes a thinking Catholic has to say "enough".

"Most logical Christian religion out there" is an opinion... not fact. Also, I believe Judaism are the "roots" for ALL Christian faiths, so *that* would be the "original" religion. So when you are going to be stating things as facts, do some research to know you are, in fact, correct... instead of preaching opinion.

Such a negative attitude to have. All religious organizations have their problems, it just the media that exacerbates the issue. Just so you know, the Catholic church is the most logical Christian religion out there, and not to forget, the original one too.

No doubt the Faithful will be expected to fork over the money for the Church's failure. One of the reasons I left the Catholic Church!
