AUGUSTA, Ga. - The queen of reality TV weight loss Ruby Gettinger inspires hundreds throughout Georgia-Carolina Sunday.
Gettinger spoke at four church services for Steven’s Creek Church in both Evans and Grovetown.
Addiction was Gettinger’s focus. She says addiction is something she along with thousands of other struggle with every day. By sharing her story, she hopes to inspire people to fight back against their own addictions.
"We all have some kind of beast that we're fighting,” Gettinger said.
Gettinger's beast is food. But in two years she's dropped half her weight. Getting here, Gettinger said, “isn’t easy.”
"It's a hard road and we always look for a quick fix and there is no quick fix,” Gettinger said.
Ruby told members of Steven's Creek Church faith in God is a big part of what makes her weight loss possible.
“Just watching her and seeing she can do it. You can fight any addiction with him. It's just that simple,” said church member Sherrel Wilson.
Wilson says after meeting Ruby she's never going to miss an episode of her show.
"She's just a real down to earth person, very sweet and she wants you to know she's fighting this too,” Wilson said.
Diana Cutright says Ruby's story will help others at her church open up and overcome their own addictions.
"You know at 700 lbs you don't feel like getting up and exercising, you don't feel like being around people and to lose half of it in two years and still working on it, that's an amazing goal,” Cutright said.
“When you go to comfort, you go to your best friend. For the drug addict, it's the drug or the needle. For the alcoholic, it’s the bottle. For me it was food instead of going to God about this and now I'm taking back control," Gettinger said.
Gettinger says if you are struggling with an addiction it's important not to shut yourself inside. Instead go out live your life and have fun with it.
