On Tuesday, Motor Trend magazine named the 2010 Ford Fusion "Car of the Year."
The car outranked other models to win the award, including Buick LaCrosse, Chevrolet Camaro, Mazda 3 and Toyota Prius, among others.
Sales of the Ford Fusion have continued to grow despite the general downturn in the auto market during the past year.
Ford first introduced the Fusion for the 2006 model year, as one of two models to replace the Ford Taurus, which was waning in popularity.
Ford also introduced the larger Ford Five Hundred to replace the Taurus in 2005. Production of the Taurus ended after the 2007 model year, but the Five Hundred was slightly redesigned and renamed the Taurus for the 2008 model year. Earlier this year, the completely redesigned Ford Taurus debuted for the 2010 model year.
The Fusion got a facelift for the 2010 model year, also.
