SC gov hopeful calls for Confederate flag removal

Tools

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - A Democrat running for governor says South
Carolina should remove the Confederate flag from the Statehouse
grounds if it wants to grow its economy.

Charleston lawyer Mullins McLeod says the Confederate flag
debate continues to hold the state back and the state can't compete
economically in the face of those old arguments.

The flag at a monument to Confederate war dead at the Capitol
already has been a topic in the 2010 race. Republican candidates in
their first debate in September closed the door to removing the
banner.

McLeod says removing the flag would tell the world the state is
ready to make progress.

McLeod's economic plans also call for middle class and business
tax breaks that include more deductions for starting a small
business.

This guy just lost his election run. Regardless of the meaning people attach to this flag..its just a flag. We have people with much bigger and more important issues to address.

Here we go again. We should stick with the compromise that was made a few years back.

Hey B, guess you think we shouldn't remember or honor Vietnam vets, eh? Win or lose, we remember and honor our veterans, including Confederate Veterans. You are truly being a wise crack in a topic that is truly serious.

The Confederate Monument and the appropriate flag that flies by it is not there to prolong 19th century arguments. It is there to honor the men of SC who fought and died defending her. The compromise has settled the issue. Get over it. With a mindset like this, it wouldn't be a surprise if into the future, other groups offended by WWI, WWII, Korean War, Vietnam War right up to Iraq and Afghanistan War memorials wnat them removed.......think about it.
