AUGUSTA, Ga. - NBC Augusta 26 News has learned a special election date has been set for the Georgia State Senate District 22 and Georgia House District 122 seats.
Augusta voters will head back to the polls on January 5.
The senate seat is vacant since Ed Tarver was named U.S. Attorney for Georgia’s Southern District earlier this month.
On Thursday, District 122 Representative Hardie Davis announced he was giving up his position to run for Tarver’s open seat.
Augusta Solicitor Harold Jones and Libertarian Taylor Bryant also announced they were running for the senate spot.
Georgia’s 2010 Legislative Session begins January 11.
