AUGUSTA, Ga. - Former faculty and staff are remembering an Augusta teacher killed by one of her students.

The Linda Gail Hendrick Memory Garden was restored Friday at Murphey Charter School.

The garden was created for Hendrick who was beaten and stabbed by a 14-year old student while teaching at the school in 1999.

Hendrick died from her injuries and complications, but those who knew her say her memory is still alive.

"She was such a sweet person, she was great with the kids, a wonderful coworker. She was just a beautiful person," said FBLA Advisor Alfreda Polite.

There's also a scholarship dedicated to Hendrick, awarded annually to students.

My daughter has had her share of older minors with sociopathic tendencies become dangerous in Special-Ed classrooms because of poorly thought out legislation and inadequate case evaluation. Lawmakers and top educators need to pull their heads out of the ground and stop playing petty politics on this issue, many of these students need psychiatric help, not a classroom.
