Dearing, Ga. - A community is using faith to help their pastor rebuild after a fire destroyed his home.

Church members aren't letting this tragedy get them down. Pastor Phillip Bray and his family are staying with friends.

Sunday night, fire destroyed their home next to the Fort Creek Baptist Church in Dearing.

"This church has been on fire for six or seven years and last night it just spilled into the parsonage," said Kenneth Huff, Fort Creek Baptist Church.

"The devil doesn't like what is going on here. The devil started this fire. But a little fire isn’t going to stop us," said Huff.

With the structure still standing, worshippers says the fire was a message from God.

"To me this looks like a cathedral. God isn't defeated. Satan gets all the ashes, but God still gets the praise," said Shirley Jones, Fort Creek Baptist Church.

Fire investigators say the fire started in the back bedroom and spread to the rest of the home destroying almost everything inside. Church members say faith in God, their pastor and the community will help them rebuild.

“It’s a love for the lord, love for the church and doing what's right,” said Huff.

McDuffie County Fire investigators say there was so much damage that they are unable to figure out how the fire started.

No one was home at the time.
