WAGENER, S.C. - Five places of worship have been vandalized in Aiken County.

These break-ins are the latest in a series of crimes against churches.

Since Tuesday five churches have been broken into in the Wagener Salley community.

Corinth Baptist Church is one of those. Nothing was taken Tuesday when someone kicked in the doors to the church and the fellowship hall. Corinth Baptist had been broken into before - audio equipment, a stove and refrigerator were stolen.

The pastor blames the remote location of his church and others hit in the area.

“There's no houses or anything on this road it's just the church so even if we had an alarm system by the time anyone got out here they'd be in and out,” Timothy Price said.

Price is considering moving onto the church property to help keep watch.

All of the churches are under County Jurisdiction. Still the recent break-ins have the city of Wagener on high alert.

“That's a signal or alert that we might need to check out our property a little better than we had been especially with the crimes being on the town limits so close to the town,” Officer Charles Thomas said.

The sheriff's office is still trying to figure out if these crimes are connected.

Smyrna Baptist Church which was targeted this was also hit about a month ago when several other churches were vandalized.

When you have to break into a Church to steal shows how low one is. The Fool could have gone to the Church for food, support, and most needed advice on how to act.
