A statement released Wednesday by Board members says the downtown Augusta attraction will close June 30th because it's out of money!
If you go beyond these walls, you'll discover a part of Augusta you might not be expecting.
Taking a stroll through, you'll find nine acres of beautiful gardens and lakes. Nancy Schultz came out this morning to take in the beauty before the gates close for good.
"We wanted to paint here before it got too hot and we know the roses would be in bloom," said Nancy Schultz, Visitor.
When she found out the golf and gardens would be closing...she just couldn't believe it.
"I feel sad because a lot of people have put in a lot of work," said Schultz.
Whether you're taking a little time to smell the roses. Or putting your way through this miniature golf course...its an inexpensive way to enjoy yourself.
And that's just what the Fields family wanted to do.
"I thought it was beautiful and relaxing," said Dominik Fields, Visitor.
"If you've never been out here before, it's nice out here," said James Fields, Visitor.
Visitors are hoping something will help keep this garden blooming. The Georgia Golf Hall of Fame will continue. Officials it will temporarily be relocated to the home of the Executive director.
Board members say it costs half a million dollars a year to maintain the gardens. And they were short 400-thousand dollars this year. Eight people work there and will be out of a job. The Georgia Golf Hall of Fame and Gardens opened in 1982. And a miniature golf course was just added in April.
