DEARING, Ga. - Strong storms Wednesday morning brought rain, winds and destruction setting off a chain reaction that started a fire at a McDuffie County home.
All of the holiday cheer and decorations at the Taylor family’s home were melted away in a blaze of heat.
Flames gutted their home off of Wrens Highway in Dearing. Thankfully, the family and even their pets were able to get out unharmed, but everything else was a loss for Tiffany Taylor, her husband, Bobby, and their three children.
"My God!” exclaimed Tiffany. “I could've been in there. My kids could've been in there."
The family says the fire could not have come at a worse time; not only did they lose all of their belongings, but the kids lost all of their Christmas presents.
"We lost everything, right here at Christmas,” said Tiffany. “The kids don't have anything. The toys are gone, everything's gone."
It was all taken by a force of nature that caused a one-in-a-million disaster. Strong storm winds blew over one lone tree in the Taylor’s yard. The tree came crashing down on to a nearby power line; snapping a wire and overloading the Taylor's circuit breaker. The chain reaction sparked a fire around the electrical panel near one of the children's bedrooms.
"About 5 or 10 minutes later, I smelled something burning,” said Tiffany. “I got the kids up, I got them out. I got my 7-month-old baby out. There's nothing else to live for after you lose your kids."
Tiffany is thankful everyone is safe, but with no insurance, she says her family will need a Christmas miracle to make it through the winter.
The Taylor family is staying with friends and family for right now.
They say they are in desperate need of clothing, toys or any other donations from the community to brighten up their three children's holidays.
