Columbia County Commissioner Pass Amended Smoking Ban

By Clint Wilson

Columbia County Commissioners gave preliminary approval to an amended smoking ban Tuesday night. By a vote of 3-2, commissioners once again supported a smoke free Columbia County.

The revised ban allows smoking within 10 feet of buildings. The original ban would have required smokers to smoke 25 feet away from a building. Also, the amended ordinance would exempt private clubs from the smoke free rule.

The revised ban must be passed once again before becoming law. It will be on the agenda for the September 21st meeting. If passed, the law will be in effect starting January 1st, 2005.
