NEW YORK (AP)- New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer has apologized to his family and the public, but did not elaborate on a bombshell report that he Spitzer, 48, says he "acted in a way that violates my obligations to Spitzer's wife stood at his side, her hands behind her back and her eyes cast downward, as he made the statement. The New York A law enforcement official, speaking to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity, says New York Governor Eliot Spitzer is the person identified in legal papers as "Client 9,'' who paid for a four-hour tryst with a woman identified as "Kristen'' last month at a Washington hotel. Court papers also quote one of the four people arrested last week in connection with the prostitution ring as saying the client would pay for everything -- "train tickets, cab fare from the hotel and back, room service, travel time and hotel.'' The investigation reveals that "Client 9'' paid $4,300 in cash for the service. The complaint describes the prostitute as a "petite, pretty brunette, 5-feet-5 inches, and 105 pounds.'' Spitzer has not been charged. Prosecutors have not commented on Spitzer was elected governor in 2006, capturing nearly 70 percent of the vote. He is the first Democrat to be elected governor of New York since 1990. Rich Rogers contributed to this story. |
