Crib Recall

The Consumer Product Safety Commission has issued a voluntary recall of approximately 1 million cribs made by Simplicity inc.

According to the CPSC, the dropside, the side that lowers, can detatch from the crib and cause a gap that infants can get trapped in and possibly suffocate.

There are also instances where the dropside is installed upside down.

The CPSC is aware of three deaths in different models of Simplicity brand cribs.

Additionally, CPSC is aware of seven infant entrapments and 55 incidents in these cribs.

The dropside failures are being blamed on both hardware and the design of the crib.

The cribs were made in China and sold for $100-$300.

They were sold in department store, children stores and mass merchandisers from January 1998 to May 2007.

The recalled Simplicity crib models include: Aspen 3 in 1, Aspen 4 in 1, Nursery in a Box, Crib N Changer Combo, Pooh 4 in 1, Chelsea, and the following cribs with the Graco logo: Aspen 3 in 1, Ultra 3 in 1, Ultra 4 in 1, Ultra 5 in 1, Trio, and Whitney.

The model numbers are: 4600, 4605, 4705, 5000, 8000, 8324, 8800, 8740, 8910, 8994, 8050, 8750, 8760, and 8996.

People should immediately check the crib to make sure the drop side is securely fastened and correctly installed.

People with affected drop side cribs can order a drop side replacement track kit on the company’s web site.
