SC ranks second in survey of online learning
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - South Carolina ranks second in a national study of online education. The California-based Center for Digital Education released a report this week on states' online learning programs. Florida ranks No. 1 among the 44 states that participated in the survey, followed by South Carolina and New Mexico. South Carolina schools chief Jim Rex said the popular virtual school program led to the high marks. Enrollment has increased by 80 percent since its creation two years ago. More than 5,100 students are enrolled this semester in more than 60 online classes. About 95 percent of the students attend traditional public schools, 2 percent attend the state's public virtual charter schools, 2 percent attend private schools, and 1 percent are home-schooled.
