Keeping the streets of Aiken safe is not an easy job.

For Aiken Public Safety officer Jason Pridgen the past four months have been grueling.

"I really wouldn't feel up to being on the road," said the road patrol officer.

His bald head is like a battle scar. Since January he's undergone chemotherapy to fight testicular cancer. But the same men who back him up on the streets are walking with him and we decided that he didn't have to be bald by himself," he said.

"When I came in to roll call one morning I walked in and the whole room was bald and I thought what a bunch of goobers," said Pridgen.

Eleven officers in all went bald, while some are growing their hair back now. They all said the intent is to offer the support their friend needs to fight.

Pridgen's brothers say his bout with cancer hasn't stopped him from fighting crime. Since his cancer diagnosis he's reported to work almost every week, a sign of Pridgen's endurance, but he says its easy to stand when you have so many to lean on.

Last week Pridgen underwent his last chemotherapy treatment. Doctors say the treatment has a 95 percent cure rate and his outlook is really good.
