Allendale County has the highest jobless rate in South Carolina.

The county has the highest jobless rate at nearly 16-percent.

But city officials tell NBC Augusta they have a plan to get business booming again

"We've had over the last few months, some major closings--long term employers shut down and certainly we've had small one's close their doors," said William Robinson, Chairman of County Council.

But Robinson said they're working hard to change that.

One thing they're doing--preparing high school students for future jobs.

"Our Governor Sanford actually initiated making work keys a tool for employers to assess potential candidates for employment," said Robinson.

The work keys focus on technology and math.

And with future businesses that plan to move in Allendale, those trades are important.

"We are actually increasing our clusters of industries from wood products to more technology based industries," said Robinson.

Robinson also said the county has been receiving interest on a weekly basis from green-based companies.

With the prospect of new businesses moving to the area, Robinson said unemployment in Allendale County won't be a problem for long.

Robinson also told NBC Augusta Allendale County received a two year grant to help them attract more businesses.
