CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP)- A North Carolina man is recovering in a
Myrtle Beach hospital after being rescued from a fishing boat by the U.S. Coast Guard because he was suffering from chest pains.

Officials said James Smith was in fair condition Saturday night
at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center in Myrtle Beach.

The 60-year-old Granite Falls man was five miles off the South Carolina
coast on a fishing boat when he fell ill Saturday morning.

The Coast Guard says a dentist aboard the fishing boat helped
stabilize Smith while rescuers responded.

A helicopter lowered a Coast Guard swimmer to the fishing boat and then hoisted Smith aboard.
