CHARLESTON AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. (AP) - About 130 airmen from
Charleston Air Force Base are set to deploy as an entire C-17
squadron to the Middle East.
The airmen, who are slated to depart Wednesday, will fly
missions in and out of Iraq and Afghanistan. For security purposes,
the Air Force does not disclose the exact installation from which
they will be flying.
Air Force officials say the unit will transport troops and
supplies, as well as fly medical evacuation missions.
The airmen belong to the 15th Airlift Squadron, the 437th
Operations Support Squadron and the 437th Maintenance Group.
They will replace members of the 14th Airlift Squadron, also
based at Charleston. The members of the 14th are expected to return
home in about a week.
